Edward Nemecek Obituary The funeral for Edward "Ed" W. Nemecek Sr., 82, of Wahoo will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wahoo. He died Friday, March 2, 2007, in Wahoo. He was born July 21, 1924, in Wahoo to Vennie and Bessie (Mach) Nemecek Sr. He graduated from Wahoo High School in 1942. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Persian Gulf and the Pacific Theater. He married Catherine "Katie" Hobza on Aug. 20, 1947, in Wahoo. He worked as an assistant manager at Safeway and later became an industrial maintenance worker at Breunig Rendering Plant in Wahoo until he retired. He was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council 1833. He was a 60-year member of Wahoo Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4502 and Nebraska Delegation of Armed Guards. Survivors include: his wife; five daughters, Alice (and husband, Ernie) Volkmer of Norfolk, Mary (and husband, Steve) Zech of Wahoo, Ann (and husband, Rick) Hellbusch of Columbus and Jane (and husband, Joe) Peterson and Kathy (and husband, Tony) Anliker, all of Omaha; a son, Edward W. Nemecek Jr. of Wahoo; a sister, Twila Berman of Wahoo; two brothers, Thomas Nemecek and Vennie Nemecek Jr., both of Chicago; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. Wednesday at Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo and 6-8 p.m. at the church. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time Thursday at the church. A Knights of Columbus rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery with military rites by Wahoo VFW Post 4502 and American Legion Post 82.
