Bio

Funeral services for Mrs. August Zissa of Yoakum were held Friday, December 28, 1973 at 2 p.m. in St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael O’Shaughnessy officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Yoakum. Pallbearers were Joe Hanus, Leonard and Ben Svoboda, Joe Vlasek, David Zissa and Daniel Balzer. Rosary was recited at Buffington Funeral Home Chapel, Yoakum, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. She passed away at midnight, Thursday, December 27 in Huth Memorial Hospital, Yoakum, at the age of 83 years, 2 months and 27 days. Mrs. Zissa, nee Janie Schramek, was born September 30, 1890, in Lavaca County, Texas, and had been a lifetime resident of the Yoakum area. Surviving are six sons, Albert and Lebert Zissa, both of Houston, Edward and Julius P. Zissa, both of Yoakum, Ernest Zissa of Dallas, Billy M. Zissa of Casper, California; three daughters, Mrs. Joe (Lillian) Vlasek of Hunt, Mrs. Ben (Mary) Svoboda of Houston, Mrs. Dennis (Olga) Head Jr. of South Bend, Indiana; 17 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
