Howard Clark Hacking passed away in Tooele on Sept 2, 2004. He was born November 22, 1910 in Cedar Fort, Utah. He married Winifred Stephens June 21, 1934. Survivors include his wife & three daughters; Nancy (Ken) Lindquist, Ruth (Donovan) Fleming, Colleen (Kent) Tayler; twelve grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held in Tooele at 910 South 750 West, on Tuesday Sept 7th at 11:00 a.m. Friends may call at Tate Mortuary in Tooele on Monday evening 6-8 p.m. and 9:30 - 10:30 prior to the funeral at the church. Published in the Daily Herald on 9/5/2004. Howard Hacking Howard Clark Hacking, 93, gently left this life on Sept. 2, 2004. Howard was born Nov. 22, 1910, in Cedar Fort, Utah. He was the fifth of thirteen children born to Orson Ezra and Ida Melvina Brown Hacking, and the fourth child to live past infancy. He grew up on the family farm in Cedar Fort where he developed the outstanding work ethic he maintained throughout his life. He attended school in Cedar Fort and Lehi. He served a mission in American Samoa. He married Winifred Stephens June 21, 1934, in Salt Lake City. They are the parents of three daughters and Howard was an extremely loving husband and father. Howard worked in mining and milling in various Utah locations and in Pioche, Nevada. He moved to Vallejo, Calif., to work at Mare Island Naval Shipyards as a welder at the outbreak of World War II. His work at the shipyards was classified "essential," so he was exempted from military service. He lived in Vallejo for 21 years. He was working at Benicia Arsenal, Benicia, Calif., when he was transferred to Tooele Army Base in 1962. He worked at that location until his retirement in 1972. An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Howard served faithfully in many capacities, including serving as a high counselor in the Napa, California Stake. He was a faithful and much loved home teacher to many families. Howard is survived by his wife, Winifred; three daughters, Nancy (Kenneth) Lindquist, Pleasant Grove; Ruth (Donovan) Fleming, Orem; and Colleen (Kent) Tayler, Piedmont, Calif.; twelve grandchildren and twenty seven great-grand children. He was proceeded in death by his parents, twelve siblings and one great-grandson. Funeral services were held at the Tooele South Stake Center, on Tuesday Sept. 7.
