Mary Hromas, age 90 of Wahoo, died Tuesday, November 22, 2005 at the Saunders County Hospital. She was born June 8, 1915 near Dwight, NE, to John J. and Juliana (Plisek) Homolka and attended school through the 8th grade in Butler and Polk counties. On July 28, 1938 she married Frank I. Hromas in Columbus, NE. They lived, for periods of time, on farms near Raymond, Rising City, and Valparaiso, finally settling in Wahoo where she resided until her death. Mary spent her life as a homemaker and helped her husband on the farm where they milked dairy cows and raised cattle. She loved working in her vegetable and flower gardens and raising chickens in her earlier years. She also cleaned houses in Lincoln for several years. She was a past member of St. Maryís Altar Society in Valparaiso, and a past member of St. Ludmillaís Guild at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wahoo. She enjoyed Polka music and was devoted to praying the rosary. In addition, Mary liked to sew and embroider. She was preceded in death by her parents; former husband Frank; daughter Evelyn Polivka; granddaughters Sherry Allen and Judy (Allen) DeRock; great-granddaughter Shylee Polivka; 7 brothers; and 1 sister. Mary is survived by daughters and sons-in-law Bonnie and Don Schwartz of Wahoo, and Marcella and Robert Allen of Valparaiso; son-in-law John Polivka of Valparaiso; 1 brother; 11 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 2 step great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wahoo with Father Charles Townsend officiating. Visitation will be Thursday 3-8 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rosary will be at 9:45 Friday at the church with visitation beginning there at 10:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will be at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in Bee at 1:30 p.m. Friday. Memorials will be used for Masses.
