Adelia Wilhelmina Rosburg was born on January 18, 1904, on the family farm south of Buck Grove, Iowa, in Washington Township, the daughter of Jes and Anna Thoem Lorensen. She died on August 22, 1992, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of 88 years. Adelia was baptized by Pastor Niewoehner of the Evangelical St. Petri Congregation of Washington Township; and she received her elementary education at Washington Township School No. 5, one mile south of Buck Grove. As a young lady, she worked for area families, assisting with child care and housekeeping. On March 30, 1930, in Carroll, Iowa Adelia married Fred C. Rosburg. They began their married life farming near Astor, west of Manilla, and later farmed in the Dunlap, Charter Oak and Dow City areas. In 1952, they moved into the town of Charter Oak. Adelia and Fred were blessed with four children; James, Allen, Michael, and Herman. Adelia's children and their families were the most important part of her life. Adelia was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Charter Oak and also belonged to both pinochle and euchre card clubs until failing health limited her activities. Earlier in life, her hobbies were reading, letter writing and embroidery. As her children grew older, Adelia worked again as a housekeeper and as a caregiver for young children and the elderly in Charter Oak. Adelia's failing health forced her to leave her home on July 7, 1992, and at the time of her death, which was due to cancer, she was a resident of the Manilla Manor in Manilla, Iowa. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband Fred in 1953; one son, James, in 1955; four brothers; John, Frank, Louie and Herman; and three sisters Anna Else, Emma Lorensen and Rose Lorensen. She is survived by three sons; Allen and his wife Elaine; and Michael and his wife Gloriane, both of Martell, Nebraska; and Herman and his wife Nancy of Charter Oak; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother: Emil of Mapleton; one brother-in-law; Henry and his wife, Barbara, of Cedaredge, Colorado; two sisters-in-law; Loretta Forristall and her husband, Lloyd of Beavercreek, Oregon and Rose Marie Noye-Kanzler and her husband, Herman, of Oregon City, Oregon; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 25, 1992, at the St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, Iowa with Rev. L.C. Gebhardt and Vicar Lee Weander officiating the service and graveside rites held at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Denison, Iowa. Mrs. Angela Gebhardt provided the organ accompaniment for the congregational hymns "How Great Thou Art" and "Nearer, My God, to Thee". Pallbearers were: Ronald Rosburg, Michael Rosburg Jr., Dennis Rosburg, Russell Rosburg, Kenneth Rosburg, Garry Boyer and Victor Benes. Funeral arrangements were made under the direction of the Walter A. Huebner and Sons' Funeral Home in Charter Oak.
