Bio

Della Woods Word has been received of the death of Della V. Woods, 88, Lawton. Mrs. Woods died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009, in Lawton. Services were at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009, at First United Methodist Church in Anadarko with the Rev. Chuck Gilbert officiating. Burial was in Fort Cobb Cemetery under direction of Smith Funeral Home, Anadarko. She was born Aug. 4, 1920, in Wapanucka to James Watt and Julia Darter Tate. She married Floyd William Woods on Feb. 2, 1946, in Chickasha. He died May 7, 2003. She was a lead cook at Central Junior High School in Lawton and McNair Hall at Fort Sill. She sold cosmetics and Tupperware. She moved to Lawton in 2003. She was a member of Lawton Heights Methodist Church in Lawton. Survivors include a daughter, Linda Shaw, Lawton; a son, Larry Woods and his companion, Cathy Ford, Lawton; two grandchildren and their spouses: Jennifer Shaw-Housel and Todd Housel, Oklahoma City and Jeff and Missy Shaw, Lawton; two great-grandchildren: Brandon Landers and Macy Shaw, both of Lawton; two brothers and a sister-in-law: Winfred Tate, Arlington, Texas; and Gerald and Donna Tate, Burleson, Texas; a sister, Oreta Sage, Rocky Face, Ga.; a sister-in-law, Violet Tate, Oklahoma City; a special niece and nephew: Sandy and Mike Tate, Bountiful, Utah; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers: Floyd Tate, Alvin Tate, Orville Tate and Kenneth Tate; a sister, Lona Schenk; and five in-laws: Helent Tate, Beverly Tate, Roy Schenk, Bill Sage and Marilyn Tate.
