Bio

Winfred W. Tate, 91, completed his journey and stepped into the presence of God on Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013. Funeral: 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, at Pleasantview Baptist Church, 4400 Pleasantview Drive, Arlington. Interment: 2:15 p.m. in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Arlington Funeral Home (south of Dallas Cowboys stadium). Winfred was born in Coleman, Okla., to Watt and Julia Tate. He lived in Fort Worth and Mansfield the last seven years with his daughter in Arlington. Winfred Tate married Geneva Mauldin on June 27, 1942, just before he joined the Navy during World War II. He served as boatswain mate second class on the USS Kittson, APA-123, transporting troops from ship to shore during the Okinawa invasion. Winfred was an accomplished master plumber. He was devoted to God, his family, friends and Church of the Nazarene. He quietly donated all plumbing to 54 churches in the West Texas District. He had a giving servant's heart, helping more people than we can count. No doubt, Winfred Tate was a faithful Texas Rangers fan to the end. Special thanks and deepest appreciation to Fort Worth Veterans Affairs Home Health Team, Aide Deidra and Dad's VA nurse, RN Tamula. They treated Dad with highest honor, dignity, respect and care beyond measure. He was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Tate; parents, Watt and Julia Tate; four brothers; and two sisters. Survivors: Sons, the Rev. Jerry Tate and wife, Sue, of Oklahoma, the Rev. Phillip Tate and wife, Dee, of California, Rickey Tate and wife, Debbie, of Arlington and Dr. Joe Tate and wife, Jana, of Boyd; daughter, Elaine Dodson and husband, Lynn, of Arlington; 20 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother, Gerald Tate and wife, Donna, of Burleson; sister, Rita Sage of Georgia; a host of nieces and nephews; and tremendous family and friends.
