Walter was born in Ringgold County, Iowa, the third child of James Alexander and Amanda Clements McPheeters. He married Alice Arnett March 21, 1881. They were the parents of 7 children-Arthur J., Freddie B., Leroy Earl, William A., Walter P., Charles H., and Corwin.
