Clarence E. Stannus Funeral services for Clarence E. Stannus, 97, were held March 2 at the Bates Gould Chapel in Alliance, Neb. with Rev. Arlys Wilbur officiating. Burial was in the Alliance Cemetery. He died Feb. 27, 2001, at his home. He was born April 16, 1903, at Spearfish to John William and Caroline (Young) Stannus. He grew up in the Redwater area. On Oct. 5, 1923, he married Mary Mayoue at Deadwood. Clarence moved to Alliance Aug. 19, 1922, when he began working for the CB&Q Railroad. Clarence worked as a boilermaker and retired in April of 1968. He also worked on his farm west of Alliance from 1934 until he sold it in 1947. Survivors include two daughters, Della Golka and Helen Hesse, both of Greeley, Colo.; seven grandchildren and 13 grandchildren as well two nephews, Bill and Albert Carlstrom of Spearfish and a niece, Dorothy Swanson, also of Spearfish. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary; a daughter, Ruby Bruno; a brother, John Stannus; and three sisters, Bessie Stannus, May Horton and Daisy Carlstrom.
