Bio

Son of Frantisek 'Frank' & Anna (Musil) Shinn. Born in Czech. Married Oct.1, 1888 to Mary Vokoun. Father of five children: Clementine, Lillie M., Ludvik, Elsie and Milton George. Lifelong farmer. Obituary - Shinn Thomas Shinn was born December 24, 1867 and passed away February 19, 1955, at the age of 87 years, one month and 25 days. He made his home in the DuBois community and for the past year had been a patient at the Gordon Nursing Home in Table Rock. Tommy as he was known by everyone who knew him, was born in the village of Kuklik, County of Novi Mesto in the country of Morovia, which is part of Czechoslovakia. He came to this country on May 14, 1874 with his parents, three sisters and one brother, all of whom preceded Thomas in death. His mother passed away shortly after arriving in this country leaving his father to take care of five small children. The father later remarried and to this union one son, Edward was born, who survives and was a great companion to Tommy, especially the last few years. October 1, 1886 Thomas Shinn was united in marriage to Mary Wokoun. To this union five children were born, two of which preceded their parents in death. Clementine, their first born died in infancy and Lillian Musil passed away in 1941. His loving wife passed away in 1946. Surviving Mr. Shinn are two sons, Ludwig of Falls City, Milton of Hastings, and one daughter, Elsie Rexroth of Tecumseh; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren, besides a host of other relatives and friends. In his passing an old pioneer has left. He will be missed by all who knew him. Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 22, at 2:00 p.m. at the Wherry Chapel in Pawnee City, with Rev. Duane Lenz officiating. Burial was in the DuBois Cemetery.
