The youngest of five children born to Charles Solomon and Asennath Kelley, James KB was born in Hunterdon Co., NJ. By 1850, the family was settled in Bucks Co., PA, where James, or JKB, would stay another 28 years. His two older brothers served in the Civil War, and were boatmen, working on the nearby river. James however was a farmer and inventor. He had two patents issued in his name, one in 1870 and one in 1878, for a wood bending machine and a standing bench vise. He also had many "recipes" for cures for sicknesses ranging from Scarlet Fever to Skin Cancer. He also made his own type of "ice box", consisting of a frame which cheesecloth hung down, with water circulating around the frame and flowing through the cheesecloth. JKB married Catherine Wildonger and had 10 children with her. In 1878, the family moved from Bucks Co., PA to Forestburg, TX. Here JKB built a barn (which still stands), a lime kiln, and a house. The house had two wooden sides and two brick sides to keep the cold winter winds out. He lived a full life, outliving his wife by 19 years and passing away at the age of 80. At the time of his passing, he was survived by 7 children, 39 grandchildren, and many great grandchildren.
