Funeral services for little Bennie Lane, 8, of Fontana, who died Wednesday, October 25, were held at the home in Fontana, Friday, October 27, at 2:30. Dr. M O Clemmons, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Paola, officiated. Mrs. Mary Ellen Smith and Mary Clinton accompanied by Mrs. Ivan Arnett, sang hymns, "Safe in the Arms of Jesus", Precious Jewels" and Will the Circle be Unbroken". Pallbearers were Vern Henness, Dean Harbison, Dick Montgomery, Loren Lee Miller, Damon Addy and Awnee Henness. Beverly Detmering and Edna Beckman assisted with the flowers. Burial was in the Fontana Cemetery. Benny Layle Lane, son of Hugh A. and Iva E. Lane, was born in Miami County, near Drexel Missouri, March 4, 1936. The family moved a short time later to the Fontana community and then into town where they now reside. Benny suffered an attack of pnuemonia at a very young age and developed a heart ailment. He was protected in every way by his parents, brothers, and sister but his physical handicap lowered his resistance and when he recently contract whooping cough, he was unable to stand the strain of the disease. He leaves to mourn his death, his parents, one sister, Mildred Lane of Kansas City, Missouri; five brothers, Webster of Fontana, Dwight of Kansas City, Missouri, Wiley of the Armed Forces, Ft Ord, California and Johnnie and Donald of the home.
