Bio

Grace Burnett Smith, 77, a registered nurse and educator, passed away Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, in Weatherford. Funeral: 2 p.m. Sunday at Lipan First Baptist Church. Interment: Evergreen Cemetery in Lipan. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Wiley Chapel in Lipan. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials to Lipan First Baptist Church or the Sylvia Baccus Library at Lipan High School. Mrs. Smith was born Feb. 21, 1931, in Rusk to Robert Ishom Burnett and Roberta McLeoud Burnett. She married Billy Sam Smith on Nov. 26, 1960, in Dallas. She was a member of Lipan First Baptist Church. She worked as a nurse at Parkland Hospital in Dallas. She had a master's degree in education and taught nursing in Weatherford and also taught in the Lipan school district. Survivors: Children, Mary Smith Dewey and husband, Ron, of Dallas, Paul Smith and wife, Sheila, of Weatherford and David Smith and wife, Laura, of Granbury; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sisters, Ruth Handy of Fountain Valley, Calif., and Yvonne Breneman of Ann Arbor, Mich.
