SILSBEE - The Rev. R. E. Barclay of First Baptist Church and the Rev. R. L. Bateman of Woodrow Baptist Church officiated the 10 a.m. Monday funeral for Benton Durham Nowlin, 50, who was found dead at 5:10 p.m. Saturday. Services in Famer Funeral Home were followed by burial in Pilgram Rest Cemetery at Colmesneil. Beaumont Journal Monday, May 1, 1961 *** B. D. Nowlin, 59, of Silsbee Dies of Shot Wounds SILSBEE, April 29 (Spl) - Benton Durham Nowlin, 59, of 1130 Woodrow Rd in Silsbee was found dead at approximately 5:10 p.m. Saturday, but a son-in-law, G. H. Duell. Judge Louis Sellers, Justice of the Peace in Silsbee, held an inquest and said that death was due to gunshot wounds, but he is withholding a formal verdict at this time. Mr. Nowlin apparently had been dead some five to six hours, Judge Sellers said. Mr. Nowlin was a cannan (?) for the Santa Fe Railway Co. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lela Nowlin of Silsbee; two daughters, Mrs. Duell and Mrs. James Ferguson, both of Silsbee; his mother, Mrs. Cora Nowlin of Silsbee; four brothers, Pat Nowlin of Somerfield, Jason (?) Nowlin of Colmesneil, Bill Nowlin of Port Arthur, and Bowman Nowlin of Beaumont; two sisters, Mrs. J. D. Butler of Chance-Loeb and Mrs. Myrtis Kirk (?) of Houston and two grandchildren. Funeral services are pending and will be announced by Farmer Funeral Home of Silsbee.
