Bio
Melbourn Murphree, 73, of Straight Mountain, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, at Trinity Medical Center in Birmingham. A retired truck driver, he was a native of Blount County and was of the Methodist faith. He was predeceased by son Randy Murphree and parents Wallace and Mandy Gulledge Murphree. Surviving are his wife Doris Jean Murphree, son Dennis (Mariam) Murphree, and daughter Carol (Steve) Hogeland, all of Oneonta; granddaughters Christy Head and Brandy Murphree; great-granddaughters Zoe Head and Morgan Head; brothers Wendell (Margaret) Murphree of Oneonta and Denferd "J.T." (Jeanene) Murphree of Trussville; sisters Evon Cagle of Oneonta, Edell Shores of Florida, Florine Moorehouse of Odenville, and Marlene Townsend of Pinson. George Tobert and Don Edwards conducted services Jan. 5 at 1 p.m. at Lemley Funeral Chapel. Burial followed at Antioch Methodist Cemetery on Straight Mountain. Pallbearers were Mike Murphree, Jim Allen, Johnny Harris, Jimmy Townsend, George Tobert, and Colan Blakely.
