Published in the Ord Quiz, Ord, Nebraska, Thursday, July 6, 1995 Sylvester Boro Sylvester 'Syl' Boro, 73, of Ord died June 30, 1995 at his home. Services were held July 3 at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Ord. Military rites were conducted by the VFW and American Legion. Burial was in the Ord Catholic Cemetery. Mr. Boro was born October 5, 1921 in Valley County, near Elyria, to John and Anna (Kapustka) Boro. He grew up near Comstock and graduated from Comstock High School in 1939. In August of 1942 he entered the Army serving in the Pacific Theater specifically in France and the Philippines, earning a Bronze Star. In February of 1946 he was honorable discharged. On September 17, 1946 he married Mildred Moudry at Ord. The couple then resided in Ord. In 1957 he began for the Loup Valley Public Power District as a lineman and later as a trouble shooter. He retired in 1983. He was a member of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and was a past trustee and usher in the church. He was a lifetime member of the Ord VFW and American Legion where he served as the past VFW Commander. He enjoyed music and had his own polka band, the Polka Gems. He also played drums in numerous other bands. Survivors include his wife Mildred of Ord; two sons, Dennis of Fairmont, Minn., and John of Salem, Ore., three grandchildren; one brother, Al Boro of Ord; and two sisters, Lorraine Augustyn of Ord and Margaret (Mrs. Harold) Klinginsmith of Cambridge.
