Bio

Columbus Telegraph February 13, 1924 Pioneer's Death Unexpected Vincent Bock, pioneer of the Bellwood community and a resident of Columbus 14 years, died unexpectedly at his home, 1304 14th street, shortly before 4am today. He had suffered for years with asthma. Saturday he did not feel as well as usual and by Monday pneumonia had developed. A hardy, vigorous man physically, he refused to heed his doctor's admonitions to stay in bed, and was up and around the house yesterday. Last night, instead of going to bed, he lay on a couch. During the night his condition took a sudden change for the worse. He arose from his couch and fell unconscious on the floor. Death came before the family doctor could reach his side. Mr. Bock was born in Germany Jan. 20, 1849. He came to America with his parents when he was 6 years old, the family locating in Wisconsin. In 1870 he came to Columbus and took a homestead three miles west and one mile south of Bellwood, where he resided until he retired from active farm life 14 years ago and established his home in the city. In 1871 he married Miss Mary Lockner, who with their five sons and five daughters survives him. The children are Lawrence, Anton, Frank, Vincent, George, Mrs. George Cady, Mrs. Mae West, Mrs. Mike Beierle, Mrs. Tom Beierle and Mrs. Rose Jacobs. Most of them reside in the vicinity of Bellwood, except George, who was at home with his parents. He leaves also a brother, Anton, at Cedar Bluffs, Neb. A Son, Adam Henry preceded him in death in 1918. Tentative arrangements have been made for the funeral to be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the family home and at 2:30 at the Methodist church in Bellwood, with the burial in the Bellwood cemetery. A special thanks to Jim Tipton for sponsoring this memorial.
