He was born June 1, 1931 to Raymond and Lorena Kennedy in American Falls, Idaho. His family moved to Kimberly, Idaho in 1944, where he grew up with three brothers and three sisters in a Christ-centered home. He was active in the Kimberly Christian Church, and graduated from Kimberly High School. He later joined the US Army, where he attained rank of Sergeant First Class and was Aviation Line Chief overseeing aspects of Aircraft Maintenance at Fort Hood, Texas. While in the Service, he met and married Barbara Brown from Carmen, Idaho on Oct. 16, 1954. After his honorable discharge, he and Barbara moved back to Kimberly, and then in 1957 to Pocatello where he attended Idaho State University. In 1959 they moved to Boise, where he attended Boise Junior College, and they raised their four children. He worked as a Building Inspector for Engineering Incorporated and for the City of Boise. He always loved the things of God and served for years as a Deacon and an Elder at the Boise First Christian Church. Later in his life, he left his work with Engineering Incorporated to attend Boise Bible College. Upon graduation, he served as an interim minister for several churches in the Treasure Valley. He lived frugally, and through good stewardship, was able to fund the construction of two dormitory homes for The Children's Village, a Missionary Home and School serving orphans in India. His greatest desire was that the Bible be faithfully preached so that men, women, and children could meet Jesus Christ and that their souls might be saved by claiming His free gift of Salvation. John is survived by his four children, Mark, Steven, and Sharon Kennedy, all of Homedale, his son Raymond Kennedy of Nampa, his brother Clifford Kennedy of Homedale, and his sister Alice Carter of Mission Viejo, Calif. He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara, his brothers Harold and Floyd, and by his sisters Ruby Kennedy and Elaine Schmidt. An Open House celebrating John's life and his passing to meet Jesus will be held Sat. Nov. 15, 2008 from 1 - 4 p.m. at his son Ray's house in Nampa at 6748 Ustick Rd. The family suggests any Memorial Contributions be made to Boise Bible College.
