Johnathan Carl August Lehmann (he was called August) was the third child born to Maria Anna Mehle (1811-1870) and Andreas Lehmann(1807-1896); he was born 08 Sep 1843 in Gross Saubernitz and died 26 Aug 1907 in Paige, Texas. In 1859, his father, Andreas, decided to take his entire family and leave their native land when the King of Prussia had forbidden the Wends from speaking their Slavic language and ordered them not to practice their Lutheran religion. The Wends decided they did not want to live under those circumstances, so they formed their own church and began migrating to Texas, the first ship to leave was the Ben Nevis in 1854. thereafter ships left regularly, except for 1861-1865 during the Civil War no Wends were recorded as immigrating to the United States. In 1859, the Bark Iris sailed from Bremerhafen to Galveston Island, Galveston, Texas between 20 Apr 1859 and 05 Jun 1859 landing in Die Union, Galveston, Texas on 09 Jun 1859 - a 44 day journey under Captain Deetjen. Herman Gerhard married July 1909 in Paige, Bastrop County, Texas, Annie Marie Muesse b 18 Jun 1889 d 19 Jan 1969 the daughter of Mary Angela Krupa b 30 May 1870 d 04 Oct 1961 and Robert Muesse b 09 Nov 1869 d in May 1889. To this union five children were born: - Gertrude b 22 Jul 1911 d 15 Jan 1998; in 1958 married Frederick George Lude, Jr., the son of Louise unknown b 1889 d Before 1958 and Frederick George Lude, Sr. b 1888; his siblings were: Louise G. b 1916 d 2007, Corine b 1929, and William "Bill" b 1919 d After 1940. As they married later in life, they had no children. - Herman Gerhard, jr. b 1913 d 2006, on 03 Jul 1939 (03 Jul 1989 celebrated their 50th Anniversary), to this union 3 sons were born: Herman Gerhard III b 1942, Joel b 27 Sep 1946, and Gordon b 1948. - Adolph William, Sr b 01 Aug 1915 d 14 Nov 1974, on 08 Dec 1945 married Julia Elizabeth Austin b 15 May 1918 d 13 Mar 1997, to this union 3 children were born: Robert Muesse, Adolph William, Jr. and Virginia Ann. -Elfrieda May b 27 Dec 1918, married John Byron Porter b 27 Aug 1919 d 30 Jul 2001, to this union a daughter and a son were born: JoDell and Byron. - Son stillborn 22 Apr 1921. In about 1874, August married Marie Paulo who was born on January 13, 1854, near Spremberg, Germany; her parents were Hanna (unknown) Paulo (1826-1901) and Carl August Paulo (1818-1893). They were aboard the Galveston in 1869 when they arrived in Galveston Island, Galveston, Texas. They too were among a group of Wends who decided to leave Prussia when the King of Prussia ruled they would not be able to speak their Slavic language nor could they practice their religion. After they were married, August and Marie lived in Paige, Texas, near Giddings. Their son was Herman Gerhardt Lehman, was born May 24 1879 in Paige, Bastrop County, Texas. August Lehman died on August 26, 1907, in Paige, Bastrop County, Texas. Johnathan Carl August was born on September 8, 1847 in Weigersdorf, Germany, and, according to his funeral "Remembrance Card" states he was "60 years when he died on August 26, 1907". He was buried in the Giddings Cemetery where his wife would join him upon her death.
