Thanks to contributor #47466150 Grand Island (Nebraska) Independent Tuesday, 19 February 1974 ASHTON - Services were Tuesday at 10 a.m. for John Platek, 69, of Ashton, who died Saturday evening at a St. Paul hospital after a lingering illness. The Rev. Ted Nekoliczak of the St. Francis Catholic Church at Ashton offered the Mass of the Christian Burial. Visitation was held from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday with an 8 p.m. parish rosary at the Steele-Pospisil Funeral Home at Loup City. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery at Loup City. He was born June 24, 1904, in Howard County, the son of John and Veronica Kosmicki (sic) Platek. He attended public schools and grew to manhood in Howard County. He farmed in the Howard County area and later moved to Sherman County. He was married to Nellie Lewandowski on Feb. 11, 1931, at Ashton. Survivors include his widow of Ashton; one daughter, Mrs. Alex (Elaine) Kulwicki of St. Paul; one son, Arnold of Loup City; six grandchildren; one brother, Ben of Omaha; one step-brother, Mat Curtis of Loup City; one step-sister, Mrs. Bob Jablonski of Ord, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, one brother and his parents.
