Bio

Anna's husband John Bodner left Czechoslovakia in 1902 for the United States. He first lived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and worked in the coal mines for a year to pay the way for his wife Anna and children, John and Andrew to come over. When Anna and the son came over they moved to Leadville, Colorado where two more children were born, Vincent and Matilda. Anna ran a boarding house there. John got the urge to move on so they put what they could in one wagon but left the dishes and such behind. He then worked in a sugar factory for a couple years at Crockett, California. They moved to Sierra City in 1909. John worked as a teamster on a ranch and tried to mine gold. He ws not satisfied and moved on to Marysville. The family taveld to McCloud by stage. The driver was a "wild one" and they lost their luggage on the way. Oregon became their destination. They arrived in Klamath Falls in 1910 by train. The rest of the family arrived in July 1911. They moved to a homestead in Hildebrand in the spring of 1912. Helen and Anna were born there. Anna had made so many moves by then that she vowed never to get a new set of dishes again. The ones she had were chipped, cracked and mismatched ones that had been collected over the years. They were the parents of six children; John (changed his last name to Bradley); Andrew, Vincent, Matilda, Helen, and Anna.
