John Poss Jr. John Robert Poss Jr., 72, of San Angelo died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, in a local hospital. Service will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Southgate Church of Christ with Paul Shero, Reuben Stanley and Stanley Lockhart officiating. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home. He was born March 3, 1925, in Grape Creek and was a lifetime resident of San Angelo. An Army Air Force veteran, he was a truck driver for Santa Fe Trail Transport and a member of Southgate Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, Weeta Poss of San Angelo; a son, Kirby Poss of San Angelo; three daughters, Maurie Anderson and Michelle Newell, both of San Angelo, and Marta Anderson of Miles; a sister, Lois Weaver of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. JOHN ROBERT POSS JR. John Robert Poss Jr. died suddenly Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, at his residence. He was born March 3, 1925, in Grape Creek. Service will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, at Southgate Church of Christ with burial in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Reuben Stanley, Paul Shero and Stanley Lockhart will officiate. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home. John (or Junior as he was known by his friends and family) was active in 4H in high school, winning many blue ribbons showing his Duroc boars and sheep. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corp as a radio operator trainer at several bases. He retired from Santa Fe Trail Transportation after 30 years, at the age of 52. After retirement, he continued working as a plumber's helper, handyman and for Noble's Air Conditioning. He enjoyed immensely the time he spent fishing, especially at Galveston Bay and Lake Amistad. John was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. He married WEETA "GRANNY" (COPELAND) POSS on June 26, 1943, in San Angelo. He was preceded in death by his parents, John R. and Maggie Poss; two sisters, Gladys Boyd and Inez Ford; his brother, Chester Poss; one daughter, MARSHA (POSS) SANDERS ; and three grandchildren, KEVIN, SABRINA AND COREY SANDERS . He is survived by his wife and companion of 54 years, Weeta; his son, KIRBY POSS & WENDY WALTERS POSS of San Angelo; three daughters, Maurie Anderson and Dr. Thomas F. Anderson of San Angelo, Martha Anderson and husband, Rocky, of Miles and Michelle Newell and husband, Allen, of Knickerbocker; one sister, Lois Weaver of Colorado Springs, Colo.; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a special niece and nephew, Betty Ann Coggin and Delnor Poss; and many other loved nieces and nephews. He was lovingly known by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as ``Pa John.'' ``Our Daddy never preached a sermon - he lived one.'' He seemed to know and understand others' needs, and quietly sought to help in whatever way he was needed. He will be remembered for his unselfish, giving ways and quick smile. Pallbearers will be John Childers, Sonny Cleere, Don McKee, Gregory Economidis, Harroll Clemmer and Kenneth Gartman. Memorials may be made to mission work at Southgate Church of Christ or to the West Texas Rehabilitation Center.
