Former dietician/cook Gladys Faye Martin died of natural causes Sunday, Feb. 11, 2007, at Sutter Amador Hospital in Jackson. She was 89. A native of Eufaula, Okla., Mrs. Martin was born June 25, 1917. She made her home in San Andreas for more than 50 years, since 1949. She worked as a cook and dietician for Mark Twain St. Joseph’s Hospital and Mark Twain Convalescent Hospital for more than 25 years. She held a passion for gardening, especially roses, and cooking. Mrs. Martin is survived by sons Jim Martin of Stockton, and Doug Martin of Valley Springs; daughters Jill Baratta of Rocklin, Norah Falvey of Mountain Ranch, and Julie Tudor of Kalispell, Mont.; six sisters; one brother; 13 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband of 55 years Clarence; son Larry; and grandson Roy. A private family memorial service was held Wednesday at People’s Cemetery in San Andreas. Gladys Fay Means was the daughter of Cassie Means, b. abt 1896, OK. She married Clarence Wilbur Martin the 6 Dec 1935, Eufaula, McIntosh, OK.
