Birth Place: Welfrange which is located in Dalheim Commune, Remich Canton, Grevenmacher District of Luxembourg, Europe
Peter Guidinger was born in Luxembourg, Europe. He traveled to the USA on two occasions, one in 1848 and the other in 1851. In 1851 he relocated with his new wife Anna to Mequon, WI and bought an 80 acre farm. They had 12 children however, several of the children died in the first few years of life. Peter and Anna lived on the farm homesteaded in 1851 until her death in 1885. In September 1885 Peter shot and killed Anna's uncle Henry Neires over a money dispute. Peter was sentenced to life without parole and served his remaining years at both Waupun State Prison and Oshkosh mental health facility in Oshkosh, WI. His son Peter took over the ownership of the farm when his father was sentenced. The house where the murder occurred still stands on Mequon Road in the City of Mequon. In 1900 Peter died while living in Oshkosh, WI at the mental health facility. Peter was buried on the grounds, but was exhumed within one year and his body was moved to Opitz cemetery by his son Peter and a son in law Wilhelm Feldmann. He was then buried next to his wife Anna at Opitz.
Was unser Vater uns gewesen Das sagt nicht dieser Leichen Stein: Doch Mit und Nachwelt sollen lesen Das wir auf ewig Dank ihm weihen. What our father was to us, this gravestone does not reveal. However, this world and posterity should read that we will forever grant him thanks.
