SEWARD - Donald W. Codr, 75, of Seward, formerly of Bee, died Sept. 20 after a battle with cancer at St. Joseph's Villa in David City. Codr was born on Feb. 7, 1933, to Rudolph and Marie (Vogeltanz) Codr on the farm, near Ulysses. He graduated from Seward High School in 1950. He entered the Navy during the Korean Conflict in 1951 and served as a radio operator. He earned the Good Conduct Medal and served in the Philippine Theatre. He was discharged in 1955. He married MaryLou Hladky on Jan. 21, 1956 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Utica. They moved to Kansas City and then to the Bee area where he farmed, raised livestock and was a dealer for DeKalb Seed Corn. He moved to Seward in 2007. He was a 49-year member of St. Wenceslaus Church of Bee, and was on the board when the new Bee church was built. He was active in his church, serving as usher, church trustee and other various duties. He was also a member of the FSA for 35 years, a lifetime member of the Dwight Legion Post 110 and Seward VFW and a past member of the volunteer fire department in Bee. He was a strong supporter of the 4H program and was very active in the local chapters. His parents, and a son-in-law, David Dobesh, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife; sons and daughters-in-law, Ken and Sharon Codr of Garland, Bob and Becky Codr of Lincoln, Alan Codr of Seward; daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Vic Benes of Lincoln; Deb and Gary Vandenberg of David City; Karen and Tom Smaus of Bruno; Becky and Dan Kresha of David City; Lisa and Mike Karel of Lincoln; sisters and brothers-in-law, Bette and Bill Tomes of Utica; Mary Jo and Gary Karnopp of McCool Junction; Carol Lee and Mike Korgan of Yachats, Ore.; Jean and Bob Haskins of Portland, Ore.; 30 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 24 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Seward with Fr. Randall Langhorst and Fr. Peter Mitchell concelebrating. Burial will be in the St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in Bee. Viewing will be on Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the church followed by a 7 p.m. rosary also at the church. Additional viewing will be on Wednesday, one hour before services at the church. Memorials may be given as Masses or family choice.
