Mary Josephine Karnopp, lovingly known as Mary Jo, age 86, of McCool Junction, Nebraska, passed away on Friday, June 20, 2025, in Lincoln, Nebraska. She was born March 26, 1939, at home in Ulysses, Nebraska, to Rudy and Marie (Vogeltanz) Codr. On October 25, 1958, Mary Jo was united in marriage to Gary Karnopp in Seward, Nebraska. Together, they shared more than 66 years of marriage and built a life rooted in faith, family, and their farm and cattle feeding business. Mary Jo's greatest joy was her family. She was a gifted cook who delighted in preparing meals for others. She loved celebrating her Czech heritage and was known for her delicious kolaches and apple strudel. A gentle teacher, she shared her knowledge of gardening, sewing, baking, and serving God with those around her. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in McCool Junction and an avid bridge player who cherished time spent playing cards with friends and family. Mary Jo is survived by her husband, Gary Karnopp of McCool Junction; children: Tim (Beth) Karnopp of Olathe, KS; Teresa (Chris) Raun of Lincoln; Kathy (Mike) Jorgensen of Wichita, KS; Diane (Bill) Ellerbee of Lincoln; Nancy (Todd) Heyne of Lincoln; and David (Shannon) Karnopp of West Point, NE; 25 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; sisters: Carol Lee Korgan and Jean (Bob) Haskins, both of Portland, OR; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
