Bio

Born in Monroe Co., Georgia, 1824; died Feb 5, 1897; died from heart congestion. He had gone to Hico on business and was taken sick in town; a doctor was called in at once, but to no avail. Bro. Dowdy emigrated to Alabama with his parents in 1834. In 1845 was married to Miss Bettie Sides. To this union was born 12 children. In 1850, the family emigrated to Houston Co., Texas. He professed a hope in Christ in 1860 and united with Antioch church that same year. He was baptized by Elder Mose Denman. In 1871, he drew his letter and moved to Erath Co., Texas, and united with Hopewell church. In 1879, he was ordained as a deacon. He was known by all Baptists in this country, especially the care worn minister. His doors were ever open to brethren; always ready to help them in time of need. Much could be said of this great man, but this is sufficient. The old sister wants the Baptists to know that her doors will be open to them as long as she lives. John B. Donathan.
