Private, Company A, 28th Regiment, Texas Cavalry (Randal's, Dismounted), CSA Leroy M. Risinger moved to Texas in 1861. At age 21 years he joined Capt. A. M. Truit's Company (later Company A), on April 2, 1862, at Buena Vista, Shelby County, Texas, for 3 years or the war. His horse was valued at $125, and his equipments $25. When Risinger applied for a Confederate pension in 1909, witness James W. Truit stated they served together, "were messmates, and slept together, and fought side by side in the battles of Mansfield, Pleasant Hill, and Jenkins Ferry." L. M. Risinger married Julia Mize on March 28, 1867, in Panola County, Texas. "Uncle" McDuffy Risinger died of stomach cancer at his home near Tenaha, Shelby County, Texas, following a lingering illness. He had resided there "for a number of years."
