G. Risinger moved to Texas in 1849, and moved to Shelby County in March 1853. He enlisted April 15, 1862, at the age of 25. In his affidavit as witness to Mr. Risinger's Civil War service, James W. Truit was Company A's bugler, and son of its original captain, Alfred M. Truit; Company A was composed primarily of Shelby County residents. Truit and his newly formed company of about 125 men arrived in Marshall, TX, on May 6, 1862, where they joined B and E. Eventually the 12 companies joined, and arrived near Shreveport by July 12. On July 18 they left for Little Rock, AR. The regiment was officially ordered to dismount on September 28, 1862, and their horses were returned to Texas. Jordan Gilmore Risinger died at the home of his son in Patroon, Texas, on November 29, 1922. His death was attributed to old age and from a fall. Jim Gann of Patroon was the undertaker.
