Alvin Troy Ellis AUSTIN, CO- Longtime Surface Creek Area resident, Troy Ellis, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2005, at his home in Austin. He was 88 years of age.A funeral service for Troy is planned for 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 23rd at the Taylor Funeral Service chapel in Delta. James Gall will preside. Interment will fallow at the Cedaredge Cemetery. Alvin Troy Ellis was born on March 7, 1917, in Elmore city, Garvin County, Oklahoma, to the late Fred Lee and Eva (Woolsey) Ellis. He Spent his childhood and attended school in Elmore City. On September 17, 1940, in Elmore City, Troy married Lella "Mae" Rodery. She survives. They moved to Cedaredge, Colorado, in 1948, where Troy mined coal at the Red Canyon Coal Mine, the Top Coal Mine and the Green Valley Coal Mine, all located west of Cedaredge. He also worked in the fruit industry for Palmer and Company and Ivan Burke Orchards. Mae and Troy grew tired of the snow north Cedaredge and purchased a home in Austin in 1997. Troy was a former member of the Eagle's Lodge. His interests included hunting, fishing, camping and vegetable gardening. Survivors include his wife of over 64 years, Mae Ellis of Austin; two daughters: Grace Mae Farnsworth of Montrose, Co and Verginia Gayle Watkins and husband Lewis of Austin, CO: one son, Alvin Lee Ellis and wife Leanna of Clifton, CO; two brothers: Raymond Ellis of CA. and Bill Ellis and wife Ruby of Austin, CO. He is further survived by seven grandchildren: Barbara Hirschfelder, William James, Heather Byington, Debbie Smith, Lance Watkins, Echo Ellis and Chantell Gregory. He is further survived by 10 great grandchildren: Tanesha, Phillip and Amiee Smith, Terry and Danny Watkins, Emily, Tomas, and Chloe Byington, and Kylie and Shaden Gregory Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by three brothers: Aaron, Lewis and Harold Ellis and two sisters, Frankie Hall and Cleatus Russell.
