Ruby Appleby Toban, 96, of Iredell, passed away Monday, Sept. 8, 2008, in a Meridian nursing facility. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 11, in the Iredell First Baptist Church with burial in Fairy Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 10, at Lawson Funeral Home Chapel. Ruby was born in Iredell, Texas, to the late D. W. and Lucy Appleby. She was an x-ray technician. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patsy Joyce Proffitt in 1934; husband, Raymond Proffitt, Sr. in 1943; father, D.W. Appleby in 1967; mother, Lucy Appleby in 1969; brothers, Charles Appleby in 1967, and David Graham Appleby in 1992; sister, Aileen Strange in 1994 and a son, Raymond Proffitt, Jr. in 2002. Ruby is survived by sons, Bob Proffitt and wife, Mozelle, of Pittsburg, TX, and Denny Proffitt and wife, Janice, of Iredell; daughters: Glenda Ann Sund and husband, Tom, of Littleton, Colorado, Linda Jan Cipri, of Wheatridge, Colorado, and Diana Martin, of Aarada, Colorado; daughter-in-law, Margaret Proffitt, of Mena, Arkansas; 17 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchidren; and many other family members and friends.
