Mr. Henry Welch was born in Dorsetshire, England, October 7, 1842. He came to America with his parents on the North Atlantic in Sept 1850, landing in New Orleans. They spent two years in St. Louis and then resided in Alton, Illinois for several years. In 1857 they moved to Florence, Nebraska and later in the same year they came to Genoa to make their home. Ten years later Mr. Welch moved to Columbus and after spending two years there he moved onto a homestead in the Shell Creek Valley just across the line in Colfax County. On December 24, 1870, he married Miss Marguerite Pilling, who was a member of one of the pioneer families of Platte County. He remained at his home near Shell Creek until about 1916, when he retired from farm life and came again to Columbus. His wife, Marguerite passed away in September 1904. Henry died unexpectedly at his home, 1704 Quincy street, Monday evening at 10 o'clock Aug 12 1918. Though he had been in feeble health for some time, he was up and about the house as usual Monday, but complained of feeling ill toward evening. Mr Welch leaves two sons and four daughters. They are Charles H. Welch, Robert C Welch, and Mrs Louis Voss of Colfax county ad Miss Mary E Welch, at home, and Mrs Albert Kurth of Duncan, Columbus. Contributor: Linda Berney (47343179)
