For me to live is Christ and to die is gain.
Diederich was born to Gerd Dietrich Brunken and Gethe Margarete Haukenfrese in Westerstede, Germany. After his first wife Sophie died in 1901, Diederich had a second marriage in 1904 to Therese Maxant Wiese. Family notes say he immigrated to America in 1860 to Burlington, Iowa, but could buy land for less in Nebraska, so settled in Columbus, Platte County, Nebraska. =============== Columbus Journal, October 16, 1901. He has made a visit to some of our large cities in the east and New York, where he has a brother, whom he had not seen for thirty-five years. Mr. Brunken is one of the oldest settlers of Platte county, Nebraska, and reports the crops very favorable in his county. He will leave for his home Friday.--Burlington (Iowa) Hawkeye, Oct. 11.
