Annie came to America with her family at age 5. She died of a ruptured appendix on april 1, 1908 at age 20. The following obit was in the "Brainard Clipper". Miss Anna Herms died Wednesday afternoon of last week at her home near Ware. Her death caused considerable comment owing to some circumstances unusual in this vicinity connected with it. It seems that the attending physician had pronounced her case appendicitis and advised her to to to the hospital at David City for an operation. She went to the hospital, but before the doctors considered her ready for the operation, she was persuaded to return home and put her case in the hands of a Christian Scientist. But, despite the Christian Scientist's efforts, she was a corpse in less than twenty-four hours after her return home. The doctors seem to think that, had she remained in the hospital, and undergone the necessary operation, she would have recovered, while those favorably disposed toward Christian Science claim that the doctors could have done no more for her than was done, and that she would not have survived the doctors treatment either. So those of us who know nothing about the art of healing, either from the medical or the Christian standpoint, are rather left at sea as to the merits of the case. The only thing connected with the case that we can be sure of, is that the girl is dead.
