Louise was the daughter of Johann Christian Schliesser and Friederike (Zabel) Schliesser. She came to America with her family in 1893 at age 35. She died of Nephritis, or inflamation of the kidneys, at age 49. There was a short obit in the "Brainard Clipper" as follows: The people of Ware were called together Saturday to pay their last trubute to one of their number, Mrs. Herms, who died in Lincoln May 1, 1907 at the age of 49 years, 9 months, and 25 days. She was preceded to the unknown land by her husband just five years ago. She leaves five children and an aged father-in-law to mourne her loss. One daughter, Emma, is married and lives in Oklahoma, she beng unable to come to the funeral. Her son, August, and daughters Annie, Ida and Bertha were present. Mrs. Herms was a good Christian woman and will be missed by everyone in the neighborhood. Can anyone say anything better of her than this, "I have lived with her twenty-five years and she has never given me a cross word." This was said by Grandpa Herms. The services were conducted by Rev. Larkin, a scripture reading of the twenty-third Psalm and a prayer at the house; the body was then taken to the Ware church. the pastor took as his text "She has done what she could." A qurtet composed of Mesdames Anderson and Yost and Messrs. Kilgore and Gladfelter sang "Blest Be the Tie That Binds", "Jusus Lover of My Soul" and "Nearer My God to Thee." The last hymn was Mrs. Herms' favorite and was sung while the friends took their last look at the departed. She was laid to rest beside her husband in the Ware Cemetery.
LOUISE HERMS Died May 1, 1907, Aged 49 years, 9 months, 23 days. "Darling Mother, she has left us; Left us, yes, forever more. But we hope to meet our loved one, On that bright and happy shore."
