His obituary reads: Carl E. Petet, 73, of West Point, Nebraska, was born on June 26, 1905 at Comstock, Nebraska to Ben F. Petet and Nona (Bruner) Petet. He attended rural schools in Custer and Loup Counties. On November 4, 1936, he married Leone Cooper at Taylor, Nebraska. He spent his early life in and near Sargent and Comstock, Nebraska. He drove a truck in these areas and at Fremont, Nebraska, then he farmed for ten years near Tekamah, Nebraska. In 1956, He moved to West Point, Nebraska, where he owned and operated a tavern until retiring in 1972. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce at West Point, serving as President for a year; he also was an active member of the Isaac Walton League and the West Point Eagles. Survivors include his wife, Leone; son Dale and his wife Sybil of Lemon Grove, California; grandchildren, Lynn and James Broesch of LaMesa, California; sister, Mrs. Murl (Fern) Amos of Sargent, Mrs. Clifford (Ethel) Carr, Denver, Colorado; and brothers, John of Pierre, South Dakota, Lonzo of Sargent; and Ralph Petet of Uehling, Nebraska; and several nieces and nephews and many friends. Funeral rites for Mr. Petet were held Wednesday, August 9, 1978 at the Ben Stalp Funeral Home at West Point, with Rev. Richard Diede officiating. Pallbearers were Edward Tomrdle, Dale Lubker, Dale Retzlaff, Kenneth Kjeldgaard, Glen Rush and Gordys Thietje. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery.
