Alfred Chapman Carleton, 78, Merrill, died Sunday, Jan. 22, 1989 in Klamath Falls. He was born in Merrill and attended school in Merrill until his senior year, when he transferred to Central Point High School and graduated in 1929. He attended college for two years in Albany before moving back to Merrill. He was employed by the First National Bank of Oregon in Malin and Merrill. He moved to Molalla and worked for a bank for two years, then married the former Helen Kamarad on Feb. 17, 1940, in Eugene. In 1942, they moved back to merrill where he farmed. Mr. Carleton was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Merrill, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and the Farm Bureau. Survivors include his wife, Helen; sons and daughters-in-law, Dick and Margie Carleton, and Sam and Beth Carleton of Merrill; brother-in-law, Eddie Kamarad, Eureka, Calif.; sisters-in-law, Bessie Bodner, Hildebrand, and Lillian Kamarad, Talen; grandchildren Jim and Don Carelton, Greg, Kristine, Margaet and Ronnie Carelton, all of Merrill, and Steven Carleton of Lake Tahoe, Nevada.
