Helen Agnes Carleton, age 88, passed away on Friday, Oct. 16, 2009 at Providence Hospital in Medford, Ore. Pastor Bill Heming will conduct a Celebration of Helen's Life at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009, in the Merrill Presbyterian Church, Merrill, Oregon. She will be interred privately at the Merrill I.O.O.F. Cemetery. One of the seven children of Joseph and Bessie (Hulinsky) Kamarad, Helen was born on Jan. 26, 1921, in Malin, Ore. She married Alfred Carleton on Feb. 17, 1940. He preceded her in death in 1989. Helen was a member of the Merrill Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school for a number of years. She attended the 192nd General Assembly in 1980 for the Presbyterian Church. She was also secretary of the Klamath County Farm Bureau, served as a hostess for the Women's Community Lounge in Klamath Falls, and was grand marshal for the Harvest Festival in Merrill in 2001. Helen especially enjoyed gardening. Her favorite gardening tool was Roundup. Her grandkids and great-grandkids were her pride and joy. She was delighted to accept the Century Farm Award at the Oregon State Fair in September 2009. Surviving inlcude her two sons George "Sam" Carelton of Merrill and his companion Diane Rolfson of Lakehead, California, and Dick and Maggie Carleton of Merril; grandchildren and their spouses Greg and Wendi Carleton of Merrill; Steve Carleton, Kristine and Jerry Golden, and Bobbie and Bryan Hankins all of Klamath Falls, Ronnie Carleton and Donnie and Rachel Carleton, all of Eugene, Ore., and Jim and Heather Carleton of Merrill; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her "special daughters" Janie Kirkpatrick and Margie Retterath. She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
