Interment will be at 1:30 PM on December 1, at Saint Andrews Catholic Cemetery #2, rural Osceola, Nebraska, with military honors by The American Legion Hartman Post 84. Albin was born on January 8, 1934, to Hubert and Paulina (Weiser) Bernt. He grew up on the family farm between Shelby and Osceola with his eight siblings. He attended rural elementary school until the 8th grade when he left to help out on the farm. Albin was in the U.S. Army and the National Guard. After the Army he returned to Columbus where he met and married Mary Jane Dischner on November 25, 1961. They built their lives in Columbus and to their union welcomed three daughters. Albin worked for over 30 years as a brake operator at Behlen Mfg. where he retired at age 65. While Albin worked at Behlen's to support his family, his job he loved the most was working for many years at the Double T bar in Columbus. He greatly enjoyed being there whether he was working or it was his days off. It was a place for him to relax, play bumper pool, and visit with friends. Albin's favorite pastime was fishing with his best friend, Ron Sindelar. He and Ron spent most of the weekends and multiple fishing trips, waking up early to go to the lakes. He loved bringing home and showing us all the catfish he caught. He was also known to bring home turtles, frogs, or whatever else he could catch. Even though Albin and Mary Jane were no longer married, they remained very much in love and spent almost every day together. Albin was very involved in helping care for Mary Jane in the later years, which allowed her to remain in the home she loved for as long as she did. When dad was no longer able to care for himself and remain at home, he entered the Norfolk VA in 2022.
