Herman Compton joined the Kingdom of Heaven on October 12, 2025. Born January 24, 1929, to Betty (Garner) and Homer Compton, in Forreston, Texas, he was known as "PawPaw" by most, and affectionately as "Daddy" by his wife Helen. Herman lived an extraordinary life, raising and training greyhounds, and painting houses with his brothers - working until he was 84 years old. Family was his greatest treasure; February 25, 1950 he took Helen Grant as his beloved bride and the couple shared one son – Roger, two grandchildren, one great grandchild, one great-great grandchild, and 75 years devoted to each other. Herman grew up in Waxahachie, Howard specifically, and was a bashful child. He learned the value of hard work and family early on as he left school in 6th grade to help support his parents and siblings, picking cotton. Later he developed a knack for dog training and was a long time member of the Texas Greyhound Association. Herman found joy in fishing, watching football and baseball on TV (he never missed a chance to cheer on the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers), and mowing – taking pride in the general upkeep of his property. His favorite color was John Deere Green, and he could often be found listening to country music or watching Western movies especially those that featured Gene Autry, and the TV show Gunsmoke. There's no place Herman would rather be than with his wife Helen. The two enjoyed visiting the casino after retirement, and spending time on their farm in East Texas. Herman had a loving, caring spirit. His nature was funny, hardworking, and even a bit stubborn. Known for his wise words and storytelling, he was a patient teacher. Dearly loved, Herman will be greatly missed. He is preceded in death by his father Homer Compton Sr.; mother Betty (Garner) Compton; sisters Ludean Green, Betty Robinson, Merle Dawson, Wanda Harris, and Bonnie Angle; brothers Homer Compton Jr., and W.O. (Billy) Compton. Interment: Saturday, October 18th, 2025 Forreston Cemetery Lumpkins Road Forreston, TX
