LaVern Lee Johnston, 79, of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at Emerald Nursing Home in Lincoln, Nebraska. Visitation will be held from 12:30 to 1:00 p.m., Thursday, September 11, 2025, at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, September 11, 2025, at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Island with Minister Josh Sikes officiating. Military honors by the Grand Island Veterans Honor Guard. LaVern was born December 12, 1945, to Floyd & Shirley (Horn) Johnston in Grand Island, Nebraska. He grew up in a children's home with his brother and two sisters. He went to grade school in Henderson and graduated from Nebraska Christian High School. He attended college for one year at York College. He entered the United States Navy on March 1, 1967, and proudly served his country. He was honorably discharged on February 28, 1973. After his military service, LaVern worked at the Nebraska Veterans Hospital in Grand Island and Lincoln Manor Nursing Home in Lincoln. LaVern is survived by three adult children, brother Allen Johnston, and sisters Linda Johnson and Joni Hann. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Sheila Johnston Spitz, and a brother, Johnny Johnston.
