Paul Ignatius Valenta, beloved husband, father, father-in-law, Papa, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend passed away on May 28, 2024, at the age of 88. We are at peace knowing that he is happy and healthy again in heaven. He was preceded in death by his parents Adolph Valenta and Alouise Valenta, wife Carrie Valenta, son Terry Valenta, son-in-law Mike Nettles, sisters Lillian Sykowski and Agnes Hrncir, and brother Adolph Valenta. He was born June 30,1935 in Corn Hill, Texas to his parents Adolph and Alouise Valenta. He was the sixth of eight children and grew up in a small farmhouse on 200 acres where he learned to work hard, love God, and to value the gift of his close-knit Czech family and community. He attended Holy Trinity School for Elementary and graduated from Jarrell High School in 1954, attended Arlington State College and Dallas College of SMU. He was a member of the Air National Guard. After moving to Dallas, Texas in 1954, he started his banking career at National Bank of Commerce, where he met Carrie Wagliardo. Paul and Carrie married on September 9,1961 and raised five children – Tim, Karen, Thomas, Terry and Todd. They briefly moved to Abilene in the mid-sixties, and then moved back to Dallas where he joined Inwood National Bank in 1969. He worked there for many years and concluded his career there as Senior Vice President and Cashier, and a member of the Board of Directors. After retiring, Paul and Carrie moved to Waxahachie, Texas in 2001. Paul never met a stranger, was funny, friendly to everyone he met, and was an endearing storyteller. He remembered the details of everyone's lives and loved to tell anyone who would listen all about the people and places that made him who he was. Everyone he loved or cared about enriched the tapestry of his life. He enjoyed family reunions, grilling, working in the yard, reading the newspaper daily from cover to cover, dancing, polka music and beer. He loved to play games – including softball, bowling, dominoes, 42, poker, horseshoes, pass the trash, and 99. He started and sustained many relationships through his love of games (many people he played softball with were life-long friends). He was an avid sports fan, especially of the Rangers, the Cowboys, and the Mavericks – the only thing on the TV at his house was sports. Paul was a devout Catholic and loved the Lord. He and Carrie were very involved in church activities and through that involvement at St. Bernard's, they formed a special bond with the "Saturday Night Group" who filled their lives with precious friendship. In later years, they were very active at St. Joseph's in Waxahachie. Paul was a member of the KJT, SPJST and The Knights of Columbus. His absolute favorite thing was spending time with family - weekends at the farm with all his siblings, his kids and their cousins; special occasions and holidays with his kids and grandkids; sitting around the table with relatives of all kinds – drinking beer, playing games and telling stories; family reunions at Moravian Hall; Valenta family golf tournaments; attending his grandkids' games and school events - he loved all of it. Family was everything to him. Paul met Adolph and Betty Janecka in 1960. He and Carrie were attendants in their wedding and remained great friends with them throughout the years. After Carrie and Adolph both passed away, Paul and Betty's friendship deepened, and they married on October 14, 2017. They remained dedicated companions until the end. Paul was a great man who had a presence in any room. His love for family, storytelling, and his radiant smile will be truly missed.
