Sister Mary Rosalie Roessler, O.P.,entered into eternal life on July 18, 1983 at the age of 87 years after 69 years of religious life. Sister Rosalie died at St. Dominic Villa after a short illness. Mass of Christian Burial was in Warren Chapel at 2:00 P.M.Tuesday, July 19, 1983. She was born in Westphalia, Texas to the late Martin and Mary Rabroker Roessler on October 31, 1895. She attended school at Lampassas, which was taught by the Dominicans, and she entered the Community in July, 1914. She remembers that the United States entered World War I in August of that year. Two other women that entered when she did and one was her identical twin, Sister Rosalia! Sister taught school for fifteen years and then came to the motherhouse to make altar bread for the Diocese. She served in this ministry for 35 years. Her care of the sick was her next assignment - a ministry to which she was truly devoted. When interviewed a few years ago, Sister Rosalie was asked, "What was the hardest thing you had to get used to when you entered?" Her response was, "Nothing. All was accepted " which indicated her acceptance of God's will in all things. When asked what gave her the greatest feeling of accomplishment, without hesitation, she answered, "My years of making altar bread." Sister added later that caring for the sick was one of her favorite ministries also. Even when resting, Sister Rosalie was sewing or crocheting. Many of her beautifully hand-sewn items were placed in the Villa Schoppe for sale. Her devotion to the Sacred Heart, Blessed Mother, Blessed Sacrament and the poor souls was outstanding. She was a woman of prayer and you knew you had a staunch ally when you asked Sister Rosalie to remember your intentions. After such a devoted, full and happy life, the Dominican Sisters of Houston, Texas, recommend Sister Rosalie to your prayers.
