Evelyn Louise Michalek Demirsu, age 93, passed away peacefully at her home in Lafayette, Louisiana on June 21, 2025. Born December 10, 1931 in Granger, Texas, Evelyn was the youngest of ten children born to Czech immigrants Frantisek Michalek and Marie Kurtin Michalek. Her two oldest siblings were born in Czechoslovakia. A proud first generation American, she was raised in a home steeped in faith, tradition and hard work. Her parents instilled a deep devotion to the Catholic Church, which remained a guiding force throughout her life. A gifted student, Evelyn graduated Valedictorian of her high school class then attended Nixon-Clay Commercial College in Austin, Texas on a scholarship; while there she met her husband, Ayhan "Andy" Demirsu, a Turkish scholarship student at the University of Texas. Together they built a marriage of love, respect, and shared values that spanned continents and decades. Evelyn dedicated her life to raising her four children and caring for her home. She was especially devoted to her children with special needs; son, David Alp Demirsu, who passed at the age of eight, and daughter, Anne Deniz Demirsu, who lived to age thirty-three. Her caregiving was a reflection of her strength, compassion, and unwavering love. In addition to her role as a mother and caregiver, Evelyn was actively involved in her community, serving on the PTA at New Hope, Alleman Center, and LARC; advocating for children with disabilities and volunteering her time and support wherever needed. She served as a substitute teacher at daughter Anne's school, actively engaged in Anne's life and education. Evelyn reentered the workforce at age fifty-five, eventually joining The Rutherford Agency as office manager, where she continued serving others with quiet dignity and grace. She was source of love, steadiness and selfless care to all who knew her. In retirement, Evelyn was active in St. Jules Roman Catholic Church in Lafayette, often leading the Rosary on Mondays. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frantisek and Marie Michalek; husband Ayhan "Andy" Demirsu; children David Alp Demirsu and Anne Deniz Demirsu; infant son Dennis Demirsu; and siblings, Mary Knapek, Hattie Klepac, Agnes Stojanik, Frances Klepac, Georgia Mikulencak, Frank Michalek, Anton Michalek, Joe Michalek, and Johnny Michalek. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Granger, Texas. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Granger, Texas. Service dates and times are pending and will be scheduled momentarily. Evelyn's life was centered on faith, devotion, and unconditional love. Her legacy of quiet strength and compassion lives on in the hearts of all who knew her.
