From the Athens Daily Review dated July 25, 1955 Funeral services ere held at the New York Baptist Church Sunday at 3 p.m. for Willis Alvin Sholars, 81, who died in an Athens hospital Friday night after an extended illness. The services were conducted by Rev. J.W. Williford and internment was in th New York Cemetery. Mr. Sholars, a farmer and member of the Baptist Church, had lived in the New York community, route 1, LaRue for the past 26 years. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Annie E. Sholars; four sons, Bryant Sholars of Corpus Christi, J.D. SHolars of Carnes City, W.A. Sholars, Jr. of Baton Rouge, La. and Jasper J. Sholars of Oklahoma City, Okla., one step son, H. P. Forbes of Providence, La., four daughters, Mrs. Alva Hullett of Ferris, Mrs. Olia Bearden of Terrell, Mrs. Marie Couvillon of Houston and Mrs. Sue Hinds of Richards; two brothers, Roy Sholars and Dennis Sholars of Larue; five sisters, Mrs. Lou Megison of San Benito, Mrs. Lizzie Raper of Cushing, Okla.,, Mrs. Etta Richardson and Mrs. Ida Richardson of LaRue, and Mrs. T J. Collard of Athens, and 25 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. The services were conducted by the Garard-Spraggins-Swofford Funeral home in Jacksonville.
