Services for Sylvie Irene Vaughan, 95, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 17, 2008, in Craddock Chapel with Buddy Jackson and Dean Muncrief officiating. Interment will follow in Legate Cemetery. Born Jan. 11, 1913, in Waurika to Hudge and Letha A. Smock Conley, she passed away Monday, July 14, 2008, after a long illness. She married Odis E.J. Vaughan, on April 19, 1929, in Ryan. They moved to Love County in 1932 and Dickson in 1952. They raised 14 children and one grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, on Oct. 22, 1987; four sons, Fines, Haskell, J.C. and Allen Vaughan; one daughter, Ethel Vaughan; four sisters and a brother; three sons-in-law, Curtis Comer, Hugh Routh and T.J. Kays; granddaughter, Cindy Hill; and grandson, David Creecy. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She was a homemaker who also enjoyed outside work and helped her husband with farming. Friends and family gathered often at their home and everyone enjoyed her cooking. Her husband insisted that she prepare a home-cooked meal for every visitor that came through their door. She was a very special person who will be missed tremendously by all her family and the many friends and acquaintances she made during her long residence in Ardmore. She was blessed with good health until her 90's and had a cheerful and outgoing disposition until the very end. Those who knew and loved her are left with many precious memories. Joann Comer, a very special daughter, took care of our mother and grandmother. After Joann's illness, a special granddaughter, Dawn Linsley, helped. Another very special daughter, Leveta Kays, took over and cared for her until the end. Doyle Kidd, a special neighbor and friend, would call and check on mother and would bring her good things to eat and run errands for them. "God will bless them." She was of the Church of Christ faith but attended Provence Assembly of God. Survivors include her daughters, Joann Comer, Jane Creecy and husband, Gary, Ardmore; Leveta Kays, Thackerville; Frances Routh, Independence, Kan.; sons, Melvin Vaughan and wife, Melva; Richard Vaughan and wife, Rhonda; Carl Vaughan and wife, Sharon, Ardmore; Lloyd Vaughan and wife, Judy, Thackerville; Donald Vaughan, Hinton; a grandson she raised, Donnie Vaughan, Ardmore; daughter-in-law, Frances (Susie) Vaughan, Thackerville; Marilyn Vaughan, Marietta; a half-sister, Daisy Wells Jones, Wade; 28 grandchildren, several step-grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, six step-great-grandchildren, several great-great and great-great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ruby Dollar; and several nieces and nephews.
