THE SALT LAKE TRIBUNE SATURNDAY MORNING JUNE 11, 1949 page nineteen MARK TUTTLE, EX-UTAH AUDITOR, DIES Mark Tuttle, 69, branch manager of Associated General Contractors in Salt Lake City 20 years, died Friday at 2 a.m. of a heart ailment at the residence of a son, Howard Tuttle, 1426 Wasatch blvd. Mr. Tuttle served as branch manager before moving to Los Angeles three years ago. He ws visiting in Salt Lake City at the time of his death. A son of Ezariah and Mary Wilkins Tuttle, he was born Jan. 14, 1880, in Manti, Sanpete county, where he spent his early life. His father was a well-known sheriff in Emery county. Mr. Tuttle later moved to Orangeville, Every county, where he was employed in the mercantile business and became Emery county clerk. He was traveling state auditor in Utah for many years and in 1922 was elected to a four year term as state auditor. In 1923 Mr. Tuttle founded the Utah State Association of County Officials and was the group's first president. He was national president of the Managers Association of the Associated General Contractors before his retireent in 1946. Well known in Republican party circles, Mr. Tuttle was Republican party chairman of precinct 1-A in Salt Lake City and treasurer of the Sixth Republican assembly in Los Angeles. He had been active in the Salt Lake City Chamber of Commerce and was chairman of the highways committe many years. He held membership in Salt Lake Rotary club. On Dec. 17, 1910, in Ferron, Every county, he married Alta Conover. Besides his widow he is survived by three sons and a daughter, Hugh, Howard and Ward Tuttle, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Irene Bunnell, Fulerton, Cal.; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Leah Nelson, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Gladys Rixey, Downeyville, Cal.; a brother, Will Tuttle, Oakland, Cal. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2:30 p.m. at 574 E. 1st South where friends may call Sunday and Monday prior to funeral. Burial will be in Salt Lake City cemetery.
