Bio

Lucille "Lucy" Scarmardo Batten was born May 6, 1943 and went to be with her Lord January 24, 2022. Lucy was as loving and kind as she was stubborn. Family and friends will always remember her smile, kindness, and genuine interest in people and their families. She believed that we should be kind to other people and really get to know them. Lucy grew up in Caldwell, TX and the Brazos River Bottom. She babysat her younger brothers, but they were not pleased with the dinner she prepared for them, pork and beans straight out of the can. One time, she threw a spoon at her brother, Steve, and broke a light fixture, but he helped conspire to keep the incident a secret from her dad for three weeks. Lucy graduated high school and completed business school. She worked as an insurance agent at Anco Insurance and served as head of personal lines department. She was a dedicated secretary at St. Marys Catholic Church; St. Marys and St. Josephs churches were an important part of her life. Her boss, Dick Haddox, introduced Lucy to Henry "Bully" Batten at the insurance agency. They married and were together for 52 years. The next greatest day in her life was her daughters birth. Lucy loved to sing. She was in a chorus group with her sisters, Ann and Marie and sang in a trio with her twin cousins and once sang at Ft. Hood. In her younger years, Lucille played the organ for church mass. She sang in the adult choir, but her passion for music was evident in her dedication to leading a childrens choir and church service songs. Her favorite trips were driving cross country for church music conventions. Lucys passion in life was to spend time with her family, especially her granddaughter. Her favorite past-times were to watch Hallmark movies and play with her dog, Pink. She loved Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings with family. Lucy talked to her sister, Marie, on the phone every day; she loved to talk to anyone. She loved her fish tank and all Aggies sports.
