Rosalie was born in Smetana, Texas, to the late Sam C., Sr. and Josephine (Maglitto) Scarmardo. She graduated from Caldwell High School and McKenzie-Baldwin Business College. Rosalie worked in Houston at the law offices of Leon Jaworski and also at Bryan Air Field before marrying Lawrence Cotropia in July 1946. They lived in rural Robertson County near Hearne, Texas, where they farmed and raised four children. Rosalie later moved to Bryan to be closer to her family upon the death of her husband. A longtime member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in College Station, she was very involved in prayer ministry. Creative from her early years, Rosalie found joy in the fresh smell of a new box of crayons. She enjoyed drawing and her favorite subjects were bluebonnets, cotton fields, and people. After raising her family, she was inspired to take community education art classes and became well known throughout the community for her award-winning oil and watercolor paintings. In 1978, just her third year of instruction, she won "Best of Show" in the Brazos Valley Juried Art Show for her most loved and admired piece, "Celestine." Rosalie was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Cotropia; and a son, Carl James Cotropia, M.D. Survivors include daughters, Kathleen Hubbard, of Bryan, and Lisa Trampota and husband, Jerry, of College Station; son, Ray Cotropia, of Arlington; daughter-in-law, Kolette Cotropia, of Fort Worth; son-in-law, Dan Hubbard, of Mansfield; grandchildren, David Benedict and wife, Amy, Jared Benedict and wife, René, Daniel and Michael Trampota, Sarah Cotropia, Jennifer and Chad McMillan, Jaime and Scott Kephart; great-grandchildren, Callie and Rachel Benedict, Sydney and Zachary McMillan; sisters, Angela Fredericksen and husband, Carl, Marie Fredericksen and husband, Paul, Lucy Batten and husband, Bully; brothers, Sam Scarmardo, Jr. and wife, Linda, and Steve Scarmardo and wife, Daune; and numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
