Bio

Grady Harper Spence Sr., 84, of Gatesville, passed away Saturday, July 5, 2008, at his residence. Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, at King Baptist Church. Burial will follow at King Cemetery. The family will receive visitors 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Grady was born in Rogers, Texas, to Austin and Clara Mae (Gilchrist) Spence. Grady married Frances Stovall on August 31, 1947. He worked at Fort Hood and Killeen in The Road and Grounds Department for over 20 years. He loved farming, gardening and wood working. Grady was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harold (Red) Spence, Reb Trueitt Spence; and a sister-in-law; Doris Pledger Spence. Survivors include his wife, Frances Spence; son, Grady H. Spence Jr. and wife, Sandra; daughter, Luanna Phillips; sister-in-law, Lucy Hammack Spence; grandchildren, Alex Patrick and Andy Patrick; and great-grandchild, Aidan Patrick. WT: 7/7/2008
